First indication something was wrong

When Raquel was about 13 weeks old our doctors became concerned about what they noticed on the ultrasounds.

The ultrasounds revealed that the kidneys were “echogenic” meaning that the color on the screen did not appear normal and could be a sign of kidney problems.

This was shocking to us. Terry has always had very good pregnancies and we have two very healthy children. Terry is about as healthy an eater as anyone I know using only natural products and whole organic foods. Our children rarely eat boxed foods in our home except some organic breakfast cereals and cookies. We usually only drink filtered water, whole milk or juices (and some coffee latte's and mocha's).

This news started the chain of events that I feel best define Raquel’s life and purpose. This news brought us to our knees in prayer. We immediately notified select members of our church body, close friends and co-workers of the situation and began to pray.

We prayed fully expecting the Lord to heal her kidneys but week after week the pictures told a different story. Each subsequent ultrasound revealed troubled kidneys so bad that the person conducting the ultrasound said she had been doing this for 20 years and had never seen anything like it. The doc's suspected infantile, polycystic kidney disease.
